Description: -

With mass retirements hitting the public sector and the brain-drain that accompanies those departures we are faced with hiring younger workers who have different expectations of employers. Gone are the days when we could “post and pray” – that is, post a job opening and hope that great candidates respond with the right qualifications. Welcome to the new world in which we must adjust our tools and methods to attract and engage younger workers if we want our agencies to thrive.

Recent studies show that Gen Y employees have different expectations than older employees traditionally have had. Knowing more about those expectations empowers us to adjust our methods, use new tools, and build our culture so that we win and they win. Gone is the world in which the employer could simply dictate: this is what I need, now do it. Welcome to the new world of meeting mutual expectations in which both parties (employer and employee) need to be clear about what they want and need. Only when mutual expectations mesh can top performance come about.

This talk will explore the latest research on younger worker expectations, how to appeal to younger workers in outreach, and how to engage and retain the best and the brightest once we hire them and integrate them into our workforce. New tools will be introduced in which mutual expectations can be clarified, measured and deployed with case studies.
