President's Message

It is my pleasure and honor to serve as the 2012-2013 Southern California Public Management Association-Human Resources (SCPMA-HR) president.

As the largest chapter of the International Public Management Association- Human Resources (IPMA-HR), SCPMA-HR has a rich legacy of service and leadership, drawn from the human resources staffs of school districts, counties, cities, and special districts  throughout Southern California. This chapter has benefited from the men and women, who since the early 1940s, have committed their time, energy, and professional expertise to the field of public sector human resources. We are fortunate that this legacy continues again with this year’s executive board of 17 officers and directors.

As public human resources professionals, we are smart, savvy, “can-do” and in spite of all the zaniness we experience, we love the work we do. This association is a way for way for us to support each other and provide each other with the expertise and experience to do the cutting edge, innovative work that is called for to keep us valuable to our agencies.

As president of SCPMA-HR, my vision for our association is to ensure that SCPMA-HR is relevant and meaningful to you. Any good relationship is a two-way street. Let us know what trainings, workshops, networking opportunities and support we can facilitate to help you do the best job possible each and every day.

My goals this year are simple:

1)Harness Technology-Expand the usefulness of our www.scpma-hr.org website for members and the executive board by investing in website enhancements and professional web support;

2)Programs- Extend the professional development experience beyond the everyday workplace by focusing on relevant programs and training for our members and their agencies; Consider your membership in our organization as a way to expand your training budget.

3)Leadership- Develop our future SCPMA-HR leaders, regardless of age or experience, by providing opportunities to serve. Also recognizing that the field of public human resources stays vibrate and true to the mission of public service, when our minds are open to exploring different ways, of doing our work.

I want you to know that SCPMA-HR is here for you, your staff and your agencies. Thank you for your confidence in all of us and let us hear your voice.

Sincerely,

Deborah Jansen, IPMA-CP

2012-13 SCPMA-HR President
